    Hopefully not Adieu

    A New Year.

It is sad to think that I have left this space for so long.  But I assure you it has not been intended.  Class work and work in general have consumed my time.

It is interesting isn't it?  When you start doing more things in your life, you must give up something else.  (Unless of course you have magic powers or something.)  And sadly for me, that something else, was this blog.

So for now, I just want to do a very quick update.  And promise that soon I will be back up and running......

    Your Inner Magician

I have now had this space for well over a year now and believe that I have yet to fully describe the meaning behind my space's title.  As one can see from what I choose to use my blog for, I am not the typical "mischievious" person to the blind eye.  (Though typical here is somewhat relative.)

The intent behind my title was ideally a double sided effect.  Firstly, I believe that every person has a "bag of tricks" somewhere within them.  A silly or playful side that may or may not be expressed frequently.  Nevertheless though, it is still present.  I would like to think of each one of us as a magician.  One who gets to choose when, where and what "tricks" they show.

Secondly, it seems that the world that we live in seeks uniformed opinions and lack of this so-called "freedom of speech".  So when we do try to engage in such activities, surely they could be considered mischievious at times.  But if there is one thing I have learned it is that "feather-ruffling" is a good thing most of the time.  And though I consider myself anything but a writer, I have found passionate interests in writing about the issues and "wonders" that fill the world.  Perhaps the inner scientist in me just wants to constantly "explore" and the female just wants to be tricky.

Suprisingly enough, women are considered the trickier of the two sexes.  I wonder why that is...  Perhaps someone will eventually enlighten me on that one.

    Bon Anniversaire

Although it is hard for me to believe, I have now been a member of the "Spaces Clan" for a year now.  I started out small.  Too nervous to write the thoughts within my head, I instead used my space to provide insights of humor, the occasional rambling and glimpses into my daily life.  But as the months passed, events happened in my life; things that helped me realize that "hiding myself" was something that shouldn't be sought, but rather avoided.  Who was I hurting by not being myself?  Perhaps it was others, but I rationalized that in truth the answer was myself.

After this, being in the "engineering mind set" that I am currently in, I took to writing my "views" or "ideas" about things.  The topics ranged from many different things: alarm clocks, road construction, standardized testing to motivation, attitude and human spirit.

But now, even though according to my writing professor writing will never be something I could ever do professionally, I look back through my "blogging past" and can't help but think that it is through words that one is able to fully "realize" certain things.  Ever wonder why people say that "journal writing" or "poetry writing" or just "writing" in general can be very stress relieving?  By writing down whatever we want--literally, we are able to thoroughly express ourselves.

And it could be for this reason that we gain inspiration through the words of others; words that allow us to grow personally and get to know the author better.  We our given the opportunity to partake in others journey's while making our own.

Personally, the journey here has been a great and unique one for me, and I would like to thank you for being apart of it.

    7 People I tag:

    August 23

    Who Am I Sir?

    Screen names.

They, in a way, 'define' us in the virtual world.  We get to create them, and therefore, a part of ourselves goes into their creation.

Recently, a few people have asked me about the 'origin' of mine.  And no, it does not mean that I simply live in Utah.  My screen name actually comes from the University I attend and live at.

Now for those of you who don't know, I am a huge football fan.  It is probably one of the only sports I will ever fully understand, besides soccer that is.  So of course I am going to support my home team, right?  Especially when we play our rivals down in Provo...aka BYU (but that is a whole different story).

So over the course of attending the football games, I slowly learned our school's fight song.  Yes, slowly, I don't have a great memory for that kind of stuff.  And as a line in our school songs states: "Who am I, sir?  A Utah man am I.  A Utah man, sir, and will be till I die: Ki! Yi!"  So, I took the line and applied it to myself.

I simply changed one word.  I know, it kind of shows my lack of creativity a bit, but I try and do what I can.  English will always elude me in some way or another.  And right now, it is doing a great job of confusing the heck out of me!  (Let's just pray I pass my writing class this fall!)

So the next time you ask me who I am, I can now reply: "A Utah Woman Am I and will be till I die!"

    No Flame-No Shame

Being a pyro has always been apart of me.  When I see flames, it is almost like "the little kid at the candy store" scene.  Now I am not the "burning" pyro.  I don't just randomly set stuff on fire.  I like seeing fire and then just playing with it.  I don't know what it is about fire, but it has always fascinated me.  (Perhaps that is why I enjoy Chemistry so much...ah the Bunsen Burner!!!)  And yes, fireworks are pretty awesome too!

Today, as part of some of my training, we got the priveledge of using fire extinguishers.  Now although I am a pyro, I have never had the opportunity to use one of these "mischievious" tools before.  Sure I had seen them and known where they were in buildings, but that was about the extent of my knowledge.  So using one was simply amazing!  It was like spraying a can of spray paint or something.

The interesting thing about this though was where you sprayed the fire.  Now I had always been taught that the hottest part of the flame was the bottom, so I figured that is where you would start at putting it out.  But of course I was wrong (what's new...right?).  Needless to say I was taught a lesson in "fire safety".

So now...if any of you are having VIRTUAL flamage errupting from your blog space I can put it out with my 'handy dandy' fire extinguisher!

Okay, now please tell me I am not the only pyro out there...

    Complaining Corner

    Thanks for your comments

I would personally like to thank all of you for your comments.  I am doing better, but I still feel sick.  Probably will be better by the weekend.  But, I found this list of 5 reasons to never say, "I'm taking a break from blogging...", and I thought that they were pretty funny.

Top 5 reasons why you should never say "I'm taking a break from blogging":

    1) The second you submit the post saying that you're taking time off, 226 things will crowd themselves into your mind wanting to be written. And they Wont. shut. up. Damn voices.
    2) I keep forgetting to read other people's blogs, so now I have too much free time. This enables me to find useless links like this one: Growl Karaoke. But then I have no one to share them with.
    3) I have nothing to do at work except *gasp* work.
    4) Now I'm just a dork sitting outside a coffee shop in my car writing disparaging comments about the customers in a notebook for no reason whatsoever.
    5) My Sims are starting to feel micromanaged, and my dogs are hiding from me.

Hopefully you enjoyed them!  (I pulled the link for the list of Kevin's Blog, if you want to look at his blog.)  Hope to be back to my blogging self soon!

    Sick in bed...moan...

Hey all you fellow spacers out there.  Things might be a bit sparse for a little while.  I am sick in bed with heaven knows what.  Hopefully I will get better soon and be blogging again.  Keep smiling everybody!

    My SNOWY trip!

Okay, here is my report about how my vacation went.  It will be short because I hate sounding like a journal or something.  And I expect to hear a full report about how all of your weekends went.

In short it was a very short snowy weekend.  I think that it snowed the whole time that I went home.  The snow banks were taller than me!  And that is saying something because I am like 5'6.  But I was able to see the movie 'Hitch'; it was funny, I enjoyed it and would recommend it.  I had a lot of family time, which was good for an extent.  But in summary, that is it.  A really fast summary that is.  So I expect a full report from all of you!  I am not kidding about this plank thing!

15 Things to do at Wal-mart!

15 Things to do at Wal-Mart while your spouse/partner is taking their sweet time:

    1. Get 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in peoples carts when they aren't looking.

    2. Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

    3. Make a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the rest rooms.

    4. Walk up to an employee and tell him/her in an official tone, 'Code 3' in housewares .... and see what happens.

    5. Go the Service Desk and ask to put a bag of M&M's on lay away.

    6. Move a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

    7. Set up a tent in the camping department and tell other shoppers you'll invite them in if they'll bring pillows from the bedding department.

    8. When a clerk asks if they can help you, begin to cry and ask 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?'

    9. Look right into the security camera; use it as a mirror, and pick your nose.

    10. While handling guns in the hunting department, ask the clerk if he knows where the anti- depressants are.

    11. Dart around the store suspiciously loudly humming the "Mission Impossible" theme.

    12. In the auto department, practice your "Madonna look" using different size funnels.

    13. Hide in a clothing rack and when people browse through, say "PICK ME!"

    14. When an announcement comes over the loud speaker, assume the fetal position and scream "NO! NO! It's those voices again!!!!"

( And; last, but not least!)
    15. Go into a fitting room and shut the door and wait a while; and, then, yell, very loudly, "There is no toilet paper in here!"

    My Question for You!

Okay, call me corny, but I have a question to pose for all of my fellow spacers out there.  If you were a book, any book, what kind would you be?  (i.e.: Fantasy, Romance...)

I think that I would be one of those "Pick your own Adventure books..."  You know the ones that I am talking about.  The ones where you read a page and then make a decision.  And then you turn to the page of your decision.  Just because you never know what is going to happen!  There are always changes and excitement!  And that is the kind of book I would be.  But what about you?  Which would you be?

    The Search Commences!

Don't you just hate it when things happen to you and you can't do anything about it?  That is my life story today.  I was in my final class of the day and all of sudden I got a migraine.  I took some Ibuprofen in hopes to calm it down; but no, it only made the situation worse.  Needless to say, I am technically "not here" at the moment.  And with this incident, I seem to have misplaced my brain.  So, I am placing a search out on it.  So if anyone has seen my brain, can you send it my way?  Thanks!

    Writer's Block

While I was sitting here, trying to get warm (you wouldn't believe how cold it gets here), I was trying to think of what to type about.  And strangely enough, nothing came to me.  And being a mathematician/scientist, I really don't know what it is like to have a case of writer's block.  So in the midst of trying to find something to write about, I went to dictionary.com.  And low and behold, there is actually a definition for the term "writer's block".  Webster must of been having "one of those days" to come up with a definiton for it.  The definition was simply this:

    writ·er's block (rtrz)
    n. A usually temporary psychological inability to begin or continue work on a piece of writing.

I never really considered it an inability, but I can't argue with the definition now can I.  But in hopes of this new found information I was hoping that someone could supply me with a way to get rid of this inability, or give me some suggestions on what to write about.  I love to share my opinion, but I need some suggestions; because obviously, according to the defintion, I just have the inability to think of anything.

"A man is like a postage stamp. He often gets licked, stuck in a corner and pressed down, but he will generally get where he wants if he sticks on until the end."

    Somethin' on your mind?

Okay, I have decided to dedicate a part of my blog to people who need to vent, type what is on their mind, or get something off their chest.  So feel free to type what you need to!

But here is my story, just yesterday my car (Jeep Wrangler) broke down on me.  Broke down?  Well lets just say it runs but it ain't going anywhere.  My dad told me that the transmission is shot/blown or badly broken.  What is up with that?  Are those bloody 2%'ers conspiring against me again and they are taking it out on my car?  I guess I will never know...I will just have to deal with the problem.  But what bugs me is that I just got the car a year ago.  I didn't know that a car could break that fast!

    FREEZE! YOU ARE UNDER ARREST!

Okay...here is the thought provoking question of the day.  Let's say that the cops come and arrest you.

Where are you and why are you being arrested?

    Suggestion Box

Have Suggestions for my space?  Want me to write about something?  Just leave me a suggestion and I'll do what I can.

    Need a venting session?

I saw this idea on another blog and really liked it!  This is a place on my blog that you can feel free to vent about anything that is on your mind.  Things that bug you, drive you insane or that are 'anything but good'.  So feel free to take minute and clear some of those thoughts out of your mind!
