The Music of Your Life

It's official.  Listening to Holiday music is now "legal" to do.  I only say this because yes, I was caught listening to some of this music at the end of October.  Yet, when on the issue of holiday music, I can't help but recall a line from a movie I recently saw.  It stated: "The best way to spread holiday cheer is singing loud for all to hear!"  Now I may not be a singer, well let's face it, I am not a singer, but if there is one thing I know, it is that the lyrics and melody itself in music can be mesmerizing.

For those of you who don't know, music is definitely a passion of mine.  And it is breath-taking to me the way a song can affect us.  If you look back in your life, do you associate certain songs with certain people?  Whether it be with past relationships, friends or even your family; I think that certain memories will always be tied to certain songs or melodies.

When I was young, and still to this day, I have wondered what my life would be like if it were made into a motion picture story.  And furthermore, what the soundtrack or music would be like that accompanies it.  Would it be the next John Williams masterpiece or something more like a Beethoven symphony?  And what brings about the "music" in ones life?  I think the answer here lies a little deeper than "the radio"; I can't help but think that other things allow us to have this music in our lives.

The range of things that could supply this is vast and deep in variety indeed, something that is hard to even contemplate.  But if there is one thing I am slowly learning over time, it is that people are often like different genres of music.  There will be some that comfort us, others that will promote a fun environment and some that we simply "do not care for".

And the nice thing about this is that no matter how old we get, we still can acquire new "tastes" and the genre of music we like will change with us.

An Eclectic

Having a job that is about an hour and half away from my house, gives me the opportunity, not only to drive (which I LOVE to do) but to listen to music.  And without a shadow of a doubt, music is one of the many loves in my life.

Over the years I have grown accustom to listening to many different types of music.  This partly being where I grew up and the influence of my parents.

While my dad is a sold country man, my mom is a soft-rock woman.  So amist my childhood years, Garth Brooks, George Strait and Alison Krauss were often the tunes of my dad's truck.  But when it was time to be with my mom, James Taylor, Neil Diamond and Celine Dion were the common tunes.  With is kind of background, I was accustomed to knowing the words to such songs as "Fire & Rain" and "Standing Outside the Fire".

But as I grew older, I started playing the saxophone, and with that came my interest in Jazz music.  Names like "The Satchmo" and "Bird" were commonly heard in my stereo.  Although the 'punk era' did hit me, and I did enjoy the music, I could never really salvage what my favorite type of music is.

And to this day I could not tell you what kind of music is my favorite!  One day you will find me listening to Disney Soundtracks, the next Blink 182, and then Josh Groban.  So yes, I am eclectic when it comes to this area!

But could this be because I am a woman, and as a woman, I have a hard time making up my mind?  Time has yet to tell me!
