October 28 "Masquerade! Hide Your Face so the World Will Never Find You"Do you remember when you were little and it was this time of the year? I can vividly recall myself telling my mother what I "had to be" for Halloween. And sadly for my mother, the costumes I always thought up couldn't be purchased at the local supermarket. Although the day we live in now, I bet you could find almost any costume on Ebay or through a Google search of some kind...
It is interesting to me, that for one night of the year (well, this year I suppose it is more like a weekend...), you are given the opportunity to dress and literally be like someone or something else. Take on a different identity, if you will. And even if you aren't putting on a costume for the festivities, there is a good chance that you will do something "spooky" within the course of the holiday; even if it is simply watching a good scary movie.
If you look back throughout history, the closest thing I could find relating to Halloween celebrations of any kind, would be that of a Masquerade Ball. Now although these parties didn't necessarily take place in October, the idea behind them is much like that of Halloween evening. Much preparation would go into that evening. What glorious costume would you wear? And heaven forbid, you should not have a stunning mask to go along with it! A tradition, in my eyes, when costumes are concerned is simply: you needed to stun, be original and surprise.
Perhaps this idea of "wearing a costume or mask" is more a day to day situation rather than one that only happens once or twice a year. Have you ever played a game of serious poker before? If you have, you probably have heard the term "poker face" before. It is often in competition of sorts where we see the "other side" of people. Almost another person in general! There are often other things that spur this change of self; sometimes it could merely be a person or an event that happens each day. Something that causes you to submit yourself to this change however, in my eyes, can be one of the best things to ever happen to you.
Because when you find something or someone that allows you to "take off" the many "masks" you may wear; this allows you to be your true self. Something that definitely needs to be shown as often as possible... February 16 Post-Valentine's Day ThoughtOkay, okay, I know that it is after Valentine's Day, but I found this quote and just liked it. It was one of those deep quotes that make you think. As Winnie the Pooh once stated..."think, think think..." "True love is not so much a matter of romance as it is a matter of anxious concern for the well-being of one's companion." February 09 Pre-Valentine's Day Thought"We come to love not by finding a perfect person but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly." -Sam Keen This is my pre-Valentines Quote for the day. Although I don't know where I stand on this "love" issue, I really liked this quote! So I hope that it made you smile! December 10 Too many birds?Have you been stressed lately? I know that I have. No matter how hard I try to concentrate to study, something distracts me and I stop studying grrr! But anyway, I found this funny analysis of the 12 days of Christmas. It made me laugh when I heard it and it made me get a little de-stressed. You need to go and listen too it, it will make you smile Tell me what you think! December 09 The joyous pains of ChristmasEver heard the song "12 Pains of Christmas"? If not go to this site and listen to it! http://search.singingfish.com/sfw/search?query=12+pains+of+christmas&a_submit=1&aw=1&sfor=av&dur=1&fmp3=1&freal=1&fwin=1&fqt=1&cmus=1&cmov=1&crad=1&ctv=1&cnews=1&cspt=1&cfin=1&coth=1&rpp=10&persist=1&x=42&y=9 It lists almost everything that bugs me about Christmas! But the one that they didn't mention that really gets me every year is shoveling all that blasted snow or waiting in all the long lines at the stores. It a mad house I swear! What "bugs" you about the Christmas season? |
